Just arrived: Gipsy 300 den opaque tights

Gipsy Tights have kindly sent me a pair of their 300 Denier Tights.

These tights look and feel really thick and warm, which is great given how cold it has become in the UK over the last few days.

I will be testing these tights soon and a review will follow.

  1. Looking forward to it. :-)

One of the greater challenges to higher denier yarn is weaving it tightly enough. I've found that once going over 100 denier, it's harder to weave the fabric so it remains mostly opaque even when bending your legs a little. Two different 200 denier styles I tried recently of other brands further confirmed this observation. So, I'll be curious to know how the Gipsy performs.

  2. I have given the Gipsy tights one wear already and will test again before reviewing. I have found these tights to remain very opaque. First impressions are that they are excellent although the L size would not fit well on anyone taller than 5'10". The waist could also be a little higher. But first impressions are very good and they are very warm.

  3. After years of having only Mstevens as the best brand I could find, I have been looking for something that is tough and difficult to damage. So far, only 2 brands that are sold to women but are good enough for a man--the Xtra glossy Cecilia de rafael uppsala brand and the luxe fata platino--are the only good well fitting options I could find. The Xtra high gloss texture is needed to minimize pilling and resist chafing from ordinary shoes. The common Mstevens brand is still good but easy to damage. I wish all you guys out there luck. If you find them you either have to hurry and order before the winter season or there is a wait for said product.

  4. Are there any differences by the looks between the cecilia de rafael uppsala opaque, platino luxe fata and wolford Satin de Luxe Tights, I plan to get the wolford one, just want to know peoples comment on all three and any comparisons.

I tried the Wolford satin opaque, and not only were they more expensive, but they turned out to be no good. They were too see thru. I have not seen the Platano brand available, so I would go with either Mstevens or Cecelia de rafael uppsala. You have to also be careful how you line up the seam on the back with the Cecelia brand. Seams are not perfectly centered, and if the seam on the back of the heel on each foot wants to be lined up a little off centered, you must match how it wants to be on each foot for that garment. If you don't, you will quickly wear tiny holes on the heels and the garment will look bad quickly. I already went thru 2 pairs that way. The Mstevens sometimes wants the seam on the foot lined up a certain way too. The seam is on the side on that brand. Mstevens milliskin runs a little hotter, so if you are in a climate that is fickle, go with the cecelia de uppsala. You may need to add a waistband and tighten it down to 8 inches, be sure to use tape and a darner and a craft scissors, then you can just sew it back together after guiding the waistband. Most men would go with the Mstevens, as the big shine on the Cecelia brand looks gay to them. I don't mind the wet look, and think it actually makes the garment look better.

  6. As of now, the Platino brand is available. They advertise it as 70 denier instead of the 150, but it must be a very tight weave. I have never tried the Platino brand, but may give it a once over, especially as some brands I have seem to quickly age. The mstevens seems to be thin, the only reason it looks as good as it does is that the weave is very tight. The Platino brand requires the same care as the Uppsala Cecelia brand, like lining up the rear seams at the heels the way it WANTS to be, not the way YOU want it to be. If you don't take care to put it on the same way the seam wants to be at the heels, you will create excessive wear at the heels. Same thing will happen if you don't line up the side seam on each foot on the Mstevens brand the way it wants to be.

Good news, shapings.com now have the Platino luxe fata brand available, I have yet to get a pair, but they are about 50% cheaper, something to keep in mind if you are constantly going thru these. Same care as cecelia de Rafael..keep heels finely sanded, and make sure the seam is lined up the same way it wants to be each time. Me being a male has not had much luck, and I have been thru so many options, long johns, subpar tights, mens tights that go out at the waistband often, e.t.c. Let me know how the Plating Fata comes out..I may actually switch, the Cecelia Rolls Royce brand is so expensive!!! At least the garment will be comfortable, and it is not so see thru as to look gay, although the high shine may be offensive to some.
