Reviewed: Wolford OPAQUE 70 tights

I have blogged previously about the fantastic quality of the Wolford OPAQUE 70 tights. I recently purchased a pair in the recent Tights Please sale, after previously buying several pairs from the Wolford Partner Boutique in London.

These tights are not available all year round. They are a seasonal special and luckily they are still available for a limited period.

Materials and features

These tights are 92% Polyamide and 8% Elastane.

The quality of the fabric is noticeable as soon as you take them out of the packaging. They feel very soft and have a matt appearance.

They have flat seams and a gusset. The waistband isn't very wide but is more than confortable.
The tights are very opaque with an even appearance throughout when worn.

The matt appearance means that the tights can easily pass for socks if wearing under jeans or trousers.

Fit and sizing
The tights come in five sizes: Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large.

I always buy Wolford tights in Extra Large and the fit is superb. I especially like the generous size of the brief, which sits comfortably above the waist.

Colour range
These tights are available in Black, Mocca (dark brown) and Anthracite (dark grey).

Price and availability
These tights cost £16.00 from the Wolford Partner Boutique in London, with free same day UK shipping.
They are also available from Tights Please for £14.99 plus shipping.

Conclusion
The Wolford OPAQUE 70 are some of the best opaque tights I have bought. They are very warm, and glide well under trousers. They are a great alternative to traditional long johns, which are so bulky and uncomfortable. Like all Wolford tights, these wear very well and are durable. The price is reasonable and also represents a considerable saving on the Wolford Velvet De Luxe 66 tights.

  1. Nice review with a lot of useful details--thanks!

I'm curious to know... you find that the XL size fits you very well, being 5'10"/178cm. Wolford never seems to have a size accommodating 6'/183cm. Does it feel like these could stretch to fit, without sacrificing much opacity? Or is Wolford pretty much spot-on with their sizing, where 5'10" is the 'comfortable' limit? Also, out of curiosity, what is your weight? Thanks.

  2. I have some Wolford Fatal 50s. They must be over 5 years old by now, and still going well, though not remotely used as daily wear. My only complaint is they should extend the size range, for taller blokes such as myself, as well as an 188cm lady I know. The tights themselves are simply exquisite. I've also found that if you introduce lady friends to Wolfords, they suddenly become tights lovers, if they weren't already. Pricey, but very fine products

  3. Thanks tights4men. The XL in the OPAQUE 70 style fits perfectly. I am 161 pounds / 74 kg. I feel that they probably would stretch for someone a little taller but perhaps not for anyone over 6'. Strangely, I also have a pair of the Velvet De Luxe 50 tights in XL and they come up much much larger and would easily fit someone taller. With other XL sizes Wolford in pretty much spot on.

  4. Thanks for letting me know about the sizing. I had long considered the Velvet De Luxe 66 in XL, but the size chart had me conclude it wouldn't be worth the cost to find they don't fit. Any of the girlfriends I've had would probably have found the XL too large as well.

Do you think the Velvet De Luxe 50 XL sizing is the same as for the 66?

  5. I would say that the sizing in the Velvet De Luxe and OPAQUE 70 is pretty much the same. The size chart for the Velvet De Luxe 50 tights is the same as the others. But as I say, the pair that I bought did seem to come up significantly larger.

  6. Have you also tried the Velvet De Luxe 66? If so, how did they compare to the Velvet De Luxe 50? Is the weave about as tight and opacity very similar?

  7. Yes I have a pair of the Velvet De Luxe 66. They are thicker, more opaque and have a much denser weave. Out of all the Wolford range of opaque tights I would go for the OPAQUE 70s.

  8. I take it that your preference for the Opaque 70's is mostly due to better fit for your proportions? Or are there other qualities, like being more matte in appearance? Also... you mentioned how the Velvet De Luxe 50 sizes much taller than the Opaque 70. Does the Velvet De Luxe 66 size the same as the 50?

  9. Other factors are the fabric, the fit and the matt appearance. The Velvet De Luxe 66 size pretty much the same as the OPAQUE 70s

  10. I do have de luxe 55 and 50? The 50 is wee lighter but look great with denim shorts and 66 is wee thicket which is strong enough also very soft as velvet, i have too many wolfors tights included fatal 50, matt opaque 80, cotton velvet, deluxe 50 and 66 plus one is flight tights that was years ago before it stopped produced... i wear tights with women shorter shorts, hotpants and mini skirts that make yer legs look nicely, wear shorter shorts rather than long shorts to show your legs more nicely., opaque 70 is wee same as de luxe 66 and difference is by 4 deiner between these tights.

  11. Thank you for all you do to assist men that enjoy wearing tights. Your reviews are very helpful.
Re the Wolford 70, I just bought several pair from UK Tights. I am 6' 1" and weigh 225, so sometimes XL will not fit. But the Wolford 70s were perfect. And like u described they have great opaque coverage thru out the tights.
The Wolford 50s also fit me quite well. The softness of those tights is incredible. It feels like you have nothing on at all....
The Wolford Neon 40s also fit perfectly. They actually would fit someone taller than me.
The Wolford Satin Opaque did not fit me as well. Maybe they don't have as much stretch as the 50s and 70s.
Seems like Wolford is expanding their XL production. Great for all of us!
