Reviewed: 80 Denier Opaque Black Tights by Snag

Snag Tights sent us a pair of their 80 Denier Black Tights to trial and review for Hosiery For Men readers.

Snag tights are branded as "tights that fit".

This is how they explain the unique aspect of the Snag brand.

"For too long, women have had to put up with tights that just don't fit. And we're not just talking about plus size - this is a problem for big women, small women, short women, tall women. Finding tights that actually fit - the struggle is real.

"There's a very simple reason for this, but hardly anyone knows it. Its this - all tights are the same width. The only difference between different sizes of tights is the length of the legs. Until now."

Well, all this would apply to guys who buy tights too! This is one reason why we are drawn to plus size ranges as well as finding tights with wider width and a more generous length.

Snag have set out to make tights with genuinely different sizes, which genuinely different sizes, which means they vary in height, width and around the waist.

Packaging

The Snag 80 Denier Tights arrived in very simple packaging - the tights are folded and wrapped in printed tissue paper.

The downside of this is that there is no product and sizing information on the packaging. On the other hand, this is very environmentally friendly and cuts down enormously on waste, including plastic.

Material and features

Neither the packaging nor the Snag website provides information on the composition of the yarn used. It would be useful if this is added to the website information.

The tights feel velvety soft. They are made in Italy and that is invariably an indicator of quality hosiery.

Key features of the Snag 80 Denier Tights are:

  • 80 denier
  • Sheer to waist with no demarcation between leg and brief
  • Cotton gusset
  • LYCRA® 3D technology
  • Flat seams in the brief
  • Reinforced toes

The waistband is 3.5cm wide and knitted from a stronger fabric to provide support without sagging, rolling or digging in.

Sizing, fit and wearing experience

The Snag 80 Denier Tights aim to be different by varying in height, width and around the waist.

The size guide provided enables you to chose the correct tights for your height and body shape.

There are seven sizes to chose from:

  • A
  • B
  • C
  • D
  • E
  • F
  • G
I chose size E based on my height 5'9" plus. I checked this with Snag and they agreed that it would be an appropriate choice.

You can see that the sizing is also based on women's dress sizing which is somewhat opaque and confusing for guys. Perhaps Snag can address this to make sizing decisions more accessible to male customers.

These tights are a dream to put on - the additional width and stretch in the calf and thigh means there is no tightness or construction there. But at the same time the Lycra/Elastane mix in the yarn helps them to fit really snuggly on the leg with no wrinkling or bunching.

They feel really smooth and silky. Under trousers the glide is excellent.

Appearance is mainly matt with a slight shine. Opacity is even, although at 80 denier there is not a complete blackout effect.

The brief is really nice and deep - an important factor for lots of guys. You can pull it up with ease over the navel. It's pretty much a high waist style.

I trialled the Snag 80 Denier Tights on a recent work trip to a very cold Scandinavia. They were comfortable throughout, worn under trousers, and provided an affective layer of insulation without any extra bulk. They also stay up well without constant readjustments.

Colour range

The Snag 80 Denier Tights are available in five colours:
  • Black
  • Mustard
  • Slate
  • Burgundy
  • Navy
We trialled a pair in Black.

Conclusion

The Snag 80 Denier Tights are definitely a good option for guys who need more room in the calf and thigh area. You will find these tights to be exceptionally comfortable.

I definitely think larger guys also should give them a try. The option to have greater width as well as good length and stretch is admirable.

For just £6.99 the Snag 80 Denier Tights are certainly a decent bargain also. You get tights with LYCRA® 3D technology for a great fit, plus flat seams.

If the Snag website can improve information on sizing for male customers that would be welcome. Also it would help to have a more explicit statement of inclusivity that Snag tights are for all genders.

Thanks to Snag Tights for the sample. We look forward to publishing a more detailed in-depth interview and feature on them shortly.
