Reviewed: Penti Micro 100 Denier Tights

I am now part way through a series of product review of Penti tights. Penti are a hosiery manufacturer from Turkey and you can read a more detailed profile of them on this blog.

I have recently reviewed the Penti 80 Denier Micro Opaque Tights and Penti 250 Denier Premier Naturel Sensation Tights.

We now consider the 100 Denier Micro Opaque Tights.

Materials and features

Like the 250 Denier Premier Naturel Sensation Tights and the Penti 80 Denier Micro Opaque Tights , the 100 Denier Micro Opaque Tights are part of Penti's Classic range.

Penti describe these tights as 'glossy, opaque tights produced with 3D technology."

The fabric used is 90% polyamide and 10% elastane.

One can feel the quality of the material as soon as these tights are removed from the packaging. It feel soft to the touch and has a satin sheen. Although quite shiny in the light, they are not over glossy in appearance.

The 100 Denier Micro Tights are completely sheer to waist, with no demarcation between the leg and the brief.

Seams are flat throughout and there is a cotton gusset. An interesting feature is the 6cm wide waistband: this was very comfortable indeed and helped the tights stay up.

Fit and sizing

The 100 Denier Micro Opaque Tights are available in four sizes in the Black and Chestnut shades: 1 (small), 2 (medium), 3 (large) and 4 (extra large)

For other shades, sizes 1- 3 only are available.

I tested the size 4 (extra large). They were initially a bit of a challenge to get on: the close weave of the material and the high level of elastane (lyrca) means they were actually quite tight. There was plenty of stretch however, and once on, the fit was very snug and comfortable.

When worn the 100 Denier Micro feel rather like support or low compression tights. The level of compression provides a number of benefits if worn all day and also means that the tights stay in position. Glide under trousers was excellent.

The sizing, as with all Penti styles tested so far, is accurate. These tights would stretch further for a person taller than my 5'10".

I wore these tights several times during the extremely cold spell. The insulation was excellent, but the Micro 100s might be a little too warm for wear under trousers in warmer weather.

Colour range
The 100 Denier Micro Opaque Tights are available in five shades:
  • Grey
  • Chestnut
  • Black
  • Dark Blue
  • Anthracite
I tested a pair in black.

Price and availability

The 100 Denier Micro Opaque Tights cost 11.90TL (Turkish Lira). Converted at today's exchange rate this is:

£4.30
$6.75
€5.18

When sold in Penti stores outside of Turkey, prices are likely to be higher. For example, the recently reviewed Penti 80 Denier Micro Opaque Tights are priced at 9.50TL on the Penti website (approximately US$5.20), but are sold for $18.50 in the Penti store in the USA. Thanks to Hosiery For Men reader Matt for checking this price.

I estimate that the price of the 100 Denier Micro Opaque Tights will be around the $20 mark.

This puts them very much in the medium-high price bracket, but the quality is excellent.

Penti tights are available from their Turkish stores and their network of international outlets.

The Penti store in the USA, is at 9 JFK Street, Cambridge, MA 02138. They can be contacted via the Penti USA website.

If are a Turkish resident, Penti hosiery can be purchased via the Penti online shop.

For other enquiries about purchasing and shipping it is best to contact Penti directly.

Conclusion
The 100 Denier Micro Opaque Tights are excellent quality and once again I was impressed with the robust construction, accurate sizing and great fit. Like both Penti styles tested and reviewed previously, the Micro 100s have a generous brief and this makes them a good choice for male buyers.

They have a fair amount of shine, but when worn under jeans or trousers, this is obviously less noticeable. The slightly glossy appearance also means that the glide is good when worn under trousers.

  1. Very nicely done and informative review. :-)
The 10% elastane with Lycra 3D sounds like excellent stretch while staying more opaque, certainly much more so than with the 250 denier style. How does the fabric density compare to something like the Falke Pure Matt 100?

  2. They compare well with the Falke 100 - these tights are really opaque. In general I have been surprised at how good the Penti tights are. I assume they are probably the best quality brand in Turkey but I am not hugely familiar with the sector there.

  3. Warmth and elegance for men. They are designed to woman and are not comfortably accommodate the male anatomy, fit perfectly over legs, and are invisible. Thay are glossy if You would like. For a few bucks, must have for every modern man.
