Introducing Billi London: Part two

A few days ago we published Part One of our interview with Sophie Billi-Hardwick, the co-founder of Billi London.

In Part Two Sophie talks about the design and features of Billi London tights, the styles currently available and shares her thoughts on men wearing tights.

Apart from helping the planet, what else is special about Billi London's tights?

Billi London are premium tights like you've never experienced before. they are made in Italy, with the most durable yarn on the market, a 6.6 polyamide.

Modern, elegant and seamless with a gusset-free design, they have curves toning, and a sculpting effect to beautify the natural silhouette, and the soft waistband sewn by hand has a natural tummy flattening effect. We have also added a stamp at the back of the tights to differentiate the front and back!

They are knitted with a 3D technology, meaning our tights are able to stretch in every way with 360-degree flexibility. It means that they can now adapt and adjust to every shape and size, whilst also recovering after wears. So no more rolling, twisting and pinching. They are made to last and feel like a second skin, you won't want to take them off!

What styles of Billi London tights are currently available?

We have launched two models as quality is more important to us than quantity. We have a classic 30 denier tights and patterned, biodegradable tights that we called Coco (in homage to where Marie and I first met, at Coco Di Mama in London!). Of course, we will launch new models in the future, but we have started with designs that we think are truly timeless and will never go out of fashion. And this will remain the design criteria for any new model that we will launch.

There is always quite a lot of media interest in the subject of tights for men. What are your thoughts about the greater acceptability of men wearing tights, and indeed gender neutrality in clothing?

Tights are and have always been unisex which a lot of people ignore! I often hear jokes about it but I never miss a chance to remind them that tights are in fact unisex.

Marie and I are both feminists and huge advocates of inclusivity and diversity, for everyone. Before launching Billi London, I had no idea though how popular tights were with men, we received many messages from them and I think it’s great. I don’t think anyone should ever experience the feeling that they don’t belong somewhere because they don’t fit in the box we gave them or that society expects from them. Differences are what makes the world a better place, so frankly all I care about is that whoever wears our tights have the best experience possible and that we help them feel good about themselves.

To men thinking about trying tights, what would you say are the main benefits of wearing them?

Go for it! They will keep you warm, they will beautify your legs and mainly it will allow you to have fun with different outfits and diversify your wardrobe, whether it’s with dresses, skirts or shorts.

A lot of women also wear tights under their jeans or trousers in the winter, which you could also consider if you are sensitive to the cold. I would recommend our 30 denier for this!

Finally, where did the brand name 'Billi London' come from?

Billi is actually my maiden name, but all my friends call me Billi. It's a very catchy name and everyone seems to love it so we thought why not?! London is where the brand was born, so it was important for us to bring this aspect into the name too. London is such a vibrant and cosmopolitan place, we wanted this to be reflected.

Thanks Sophie! Great to speak to you. We are looking forward to receiving and reviewing the Classic 30 Denier Biodegradable Tights.
