Spotlight on Glamory Part 2

Hosiery For Men recently interviewed Manuela Sommer of Glamory Hosiery, who have just launched a new Glamory For Men range of men's tights.

You can still read Part 1 of this feature here.

In Part 2, Manuela discusses some of the advantages and benefits of tights, including those specifically designed for men. She also provides more information about the men's range and how to purchase it.

Many men continue to buy tights that are designed and made for women. What do you feel are the advantages of tights that are made specifically for men?

Women's tights are really only be a temporary solution for men. Men will want an item tailored for them and if that is available they can buy with more confidence. The design and construction will be better adapted to the men's sizes, as well as to the their anatomy.

For men who are thinking of trying tights, what do you think are the particular benefits of wearing them?

As already mentioned, there are plenty of reasons. Many men like wearing them under trousers. Also for sporting activities tights can be useful. But there may also be health reasons: support tights help to prevent venous leg problems and support vein function by constantly decreasing pressure upwards from ankle.

How successful has the range been so far since you launched it? Are any of the styles selling particularly well?

Our men's collection has only just been launched. The Glamory For Men range includes both conventional and support tights that are suitable for everyday wear.

We analyse the market carefully and welcome any feedback on our products in both the My Size and For Men collections. The Glamory For Men products came onto the market only at the beginning of July 2013. So far we have received a large number of responses which we are very grateful for. Please continue giving us feedback.

How can men buy tights from the For Men range?

Glamory men's tights are currently available mainly from internet retailers and in some retail stores.

However, they can also be ordered directly with free shipping from the Glamory website.

What developments can we expect in the future at Glamory? Are you planning to develop any new styles for men?
We are working continuously to be innovative and improve our products. In relation to men's tights area we are planning further products that will be launched in the future. A range of fashionable patterned tights is being planned.

Many thanks Manuela for speaking to Hosiery For Men. I am sure readers will find this feature both informative and useful. It is always great news when a new range of men's tights become available and I hope that the For Men collection is successful. We look forward to reviewing some of the range shortly.

Reviewed: Cindy 30 Denier Semi-Sheer Tights

Hosiery For Men recently published a feature on Legwear International and an interview with Kirsten Taylor, their Product Development and Marketing Manager.

Legwear International kindly sent me several styles of tights to trial and review. I have already published a review of the Couture Future 10 Denier Tights.

We now turn our attention to the Cindy 30 Denier Semi-Sheer Tights.

Materials and features

The Cindy 30 Denier Semi-Sheer Tights are packaged quite simply. The tights are folded around a card rectangle and then wrapped in a clear plastic sleeve. This is then enclosed in a rectangular box. The rear of the packaging provides information on sizing and fabric.

These tights are made with 100% Nylon.

Legs are straight. Toes are lightly reinforced.

Seams are conventional throughout. The Extra Large size has a comfort rear panel. Although the packaging states 'reinforced body', I found these tights to be sheer to waist apart from a slightly denser reinforcement band at the top of the legs.

The waistband is 2.5cm wide.

The fabric feels very smooth and soft. Appearance is matt throughout. There is almost no shine at all. These tights are indeed semi-sheer. They do not provide opaque coverage, but do a pretty good job of covering leg hair.

Fit and sizing

The Cindy 30 Denier Semi-Sheer Tights are available in three sizes: Medium, Large and Extra Large.

I tested the Extra Large size.

The packaging states that the Extra large size would fit up to 5'10", but I feel this size would stretch much further and would even accommodate quite tall people. There is a huge amount of stretch.

Having no Lycra/Elastane content, these tights will not cling and hug the legs. They feel quite light and airy when worn, with no feeling of compression.

I found them to be perfectly comfortable. They were easy to put on and felt as if they would be quite robust and hard-wearing.

The brief/panty has loads of room and can stretch way above the waist and hips is required.

Colour range

The Cindy 30 Denier Semi-Sheer Tights are available in four shades:
  • American Tan
  • Barely Black
  • Paloma Mink
  • Sahara
I tested a pair in the American Tan shade.

Price and availability

The Cindy 30 Denier Semi-Sheer Tights are priced at £2.29 for the Medium and Large sizes, and £2.49 for the Extra Large Size.

Conclusion
Considering the bargain price they retail at, the Cindy 30 Denier Semi-Sheer Tights do not have any of the features one almost expects in tights now - Lycra fibre, flat seams etc.

However, they are not a bad product at all. They are comfortable, easy to wear and widely available in supermarkets, corner shops and other outlets. My local Costcutter supermarket always has an impressive range of Cindy tights on display.

The high amount of stretch would also make these suitable for taller and larger guys, and some might also prefer the slightly looser fit and lack of compression.

Finally, it felt quite nostalgic to trial these tights. The American Tan shade is much less visible these days, but those of us who grew up in the 70s and 80s will remember it well. It was also quite pleasant to once again wear some tights without Lycra for the feeling of what tights used to be like.

Spotlight on Glamory Part 1

The German hosiery retailer Glamory recently launched a new range of tights for men: Glamory For Men.

Hosiery For Men recently interviewed Manuela Sommer of Glamory Hosiery.

In the first part of this feature, Manuela discusses the background to the new Glamory men's range and how it was developed. Part 2 will be published shortly.

Can you provide Hosiery for Men readers with some background information about Glamory? What is the history of the brand?
We led the brand management for several Italian hosiery brands for more than 10 years. For almost five years we have worked to develop and improve styles of hosiery in plus sizes and as a result we deliberately designed the Glamory collection. The name Glamory stands for fashion consciousness, innovativeness and versatile hosiery up to size 64 (UK 36).

Why did Glamory decide to develop a range of tights for men?
We are of the opinion that tights are also part of men's fashion. That's why we have designed a new line of pantyhose and tights for men. For men there are plenty of reasons to wear tights, too. To warm the legs on cold days, for sports activities, for the prevention of leg complaints or simply to enjoy the comfort of wearing them.

Did you undertake any particular research when planning the men's tights range? We monitored the hosiery market for a long time and this aspect has been treated neglected by many. We take the wishes and needs of the men seriously and have developed for the launch of the Glamory For Men range two styles of conventional tights and two styles of support tights.

Do you feel that tights for men are becoming more popular? Is this a particular trend in the Germany?
Tights for men are not a newly emerging trend and this is also not related to a specific country. Men's tights have always been popular, but it's a topic that is not spoken about openly. Our new collection has already generated a huge response in many European countries and I am sure will increase in popularity. It is time for the retail trade to recognise that men want to buy these items in stores.

When developing the Glamory range of tights for men, what were the specific needs you took into account? Did you look carefully at issues such as sizing and fit?
Our main focus and priority is always comfort. In this respect, the men's range was considered in the same way as the Glamory My Size range for women.

Our hosiery collections pay close attention to sizing and anatomical needs. We have therefore ensured that the men's range is available in a wide range of sizes that cater for men's requirements. Before you make your first purchase of Glamory hosiery, take a careful look at our sizing chart.

Reviewed: Nylonica Linea Lusso microfibre 20 tights

Pantyhose HQ is the international sister site to Stockings HQ - the web's biggest dedicated stockings shop.

Pantyhose HQ kindly sent me a sample of the Nylonica Linea Lusso microfibre 20 tights.

Nylonica are a new brand to me. They are made in Italy and I was eager to trial them for Hosiery For Men readers.

Materials and features

The Nylonica Linea Lusso microfibre 20 tights are attractively packaged. The tights are folded over a plain white rectangular card. The rear and front of the main packaging is then folded over this. Everything is then housed in a clear plastic envelope.

According to the product description, these are:

'Sheer 20 denier microfibre tights that hug your legs like a second skin. A real experience to wear with Lycra 3D for the ultimate in fit and comfort.'

The Nylonica Linea Lusso microfibre 20 tights are made from 80% Nylon, 18% Lycra 3D and 2% Cotton.

The fabric is simply superb and luxuriously soft to the touch.

They look very small indeed as they are removed from the packaging but appearances can be deceptive. The stretch is simply amazing; perhaps the best I have ever seen in a pair of sheer tights.

Legs are straight and toes are reinforced. The tights are completely sheer to waist.

Seams are flat throughout and expertly constructed. There is an additional T band running either side of the central seam, and a further slightly denser band underneath the waistband. The waistband itself is 4cm wide and clearly designed to provide the maximum in comfort and support. As can be seen in the image below, the 4-XLarge size I tested also has a rear comfort panel.

Fit and sizing

The Nylonica Linea Lusso microfibre 20 tights are available in three sizes: 2-Medium, 3-Large and 4-XLarge.

I tested the 4-XLarge size, which according to the packaging fits up to 5'10".

As mentioned above, these tights look small but the high Lycra 3D content provides tremendous stretch and also a really superb fit.

If you put these tights on carefully they will fit beautifully and cling to your legs like a second skin. The sensation of wearing them is really something else.

There is no wrinkling or bunching at all, and the fabric simply moulds itself to every curve.

The brief has plenty of depth and pulls comfortably over the waist.

Appearance is matt with very little shine indeed.

Colour range

The Nylonica Linea Lusso microfibre 20 tights are available in an impressive thirteen colours: sand, air force blue, aqua, baby pink, scarlet, black, deep lilac, burgundy, baby blue, noisette, rose pink, royal blue and turquoise.

I tested a pair in the Sand shade.

Price and availability

The Nylonica Linea Lusso microfibre 20 tights are available from Pantyhose HQ for just USD$10.58. This is a 25% reduction this week on the usual price of USD$14.12.

They are also available from Stockings HQ for £8.21. Delivery is free in the UK if you spend more than £50.00.

Conclusion
The Nylonica Linea Lusso microfibre 20 tights are a really superb product. I just looked up the Italian word 'lusso' and it means 'luxury'. Well that is exactly what you get here: a genuinely luxury product that is beautifully designed and engineered.

The fit and comfort of these tights is up there with any brand the best I have tested previously. But it's the incredibly smooth, quite sensual fabric that earns the highest marks. It hugs the skin perfectly and the feel is quite remarkable.

The price for tights of this quality is more than reasonable. I would say that they are a real bargain. Highly recommended.

Reviewed: Gipsy 60 Denier Velvet Opaque Tights

Hosiery retailer Yo Sassy recently made contact with Hosiery For Men to ask if we could trial and review one of their products.

Yo Sassy was launched in November 2012.

Speaking to Hosiery Men,Yo Sassy owner Lindsay Tuerena said:

'We hadn't until recently noticed men purchasing products for themselves. However having worked in the entertainment industry for many years and with friends that enjoy wearing this products for business or pleasure, I'm delighted to stock a range and happy to offer advice where possible.'

Lindsay added that new stock and styles are constantly being added to the site and that she welcomes any enquiries about particular looks or products. Enquiries from men are very much welcome.

Lindsay added:

'I think its great that men can feel more relaxed about their choice of dress. One of the benefits of tights for men from a practical point of view is that tights are great for warmth. They're also fun, sometimes a bit naughty and of course give a great tone to the leg.'

Materials and features
The Gipsy 60 Denier Velvet Opaque Tights are simply packaged, like most tights in the Gipsy range. They are contained in a simple but effective card enclosure.

The packaging provides information on the fabric used and sizing.

The tights are described as 'Velvet soft opaque tights with microfibre and high Lycra content for a lovely feel and perfect fit.'

The Gipsy 60 Denier Velvet Opaque Tights are 88% Nylon and 12% Elastane.

Legs are straight and toes are reinforced. The tights are sheer to waist with no demarcation between the leg and brief.

Opaque coverage is even, although not total. Where the fabric is more stretched, they are slightly more transparent.

Seams are flat and there is a cotton gusset. There is a 3.5cm waistband.

Fit and sizing
The Gipsy 60 Denier Velvet Opaque Tights look quite small when you take them out of the packaging, but they have a huge amount of stretch.

I tested the Large size.

The fabric is very soft and smooth. These tights feel wonderful on the leg, with the high Lycra content providing a comfortable and snug fit.

The sizing information is accurate: the Large size does stretch comfortably up to 5'10" (my height). The brief is quite deep and stretches easily over the waist.

Under trousers the glide is very good indeed with no catching at all. These tights also stay in place and no adjustment or pulling up was needed.

Colour range
The Gipsy 60 Denier Velvet Opaque Tights are available from Yo Sassy in Black only.

The Gipsy website indicates that a wider selection of colours may be available.

Price and availability
The Gipsy 60 Denier Velvet Opaque Tights are priced at £4.75.

Conclusion

For the price these tights are a bit of a bargain. For under £5.00 you get great fabric, flat seams and a high Lycra content.

Comfort and fit were very good, and I really liked the smooth, sleek feel.

These tights are quite light and not heavy opaques. This means they would be perfect for cooler days, but not times when you need serious insulation. Perfect for wearing under trousers for a moderate amount of extra warmth, but also, of course, for the great feel.

Tights mandatory for Liverpool FC players

One of the top teams in the English Premier League, Liverpool FC, are currently on a pre-season tour of Indonesia, Thailand and Australia.

Chester Chronicle journalist James Pearce, who is covering the tour reports that all the players were required to wear tights to help their circulation during the 25-hour flight from Liverpool to Jakarta.

It's another great example of the benefits of tights for men, especially for long-distance travel.

At Hosiery For Men we previously covered the story of the legendary Liverpool star John Barnes, one of the footballers who paved the way for the use of tights as sports clothing.

Spotlight on sTitch Leggings

At Hosiery For Men we have occasionally featured and reviewed men's leggings, including footless tights styles. We were delighted recently when a new brand, sTitch Leggings, made contact. They are keen for Hosiery For Men readers to know more about the brand and also what is becoming a visibly popular fashion trend.

Hosiery For Men recently interviewed Tom Hunt of sTitch Leggings and we are now pleased to publish this feature.

Can you provide Hosiery for Men readers with some background information about sTitch Leggings? What is the history of the brand?
On the 28th of October 2012 two young city workers wore ill-fitting female leggings to a fancy dress party in north London. These two individuals alongside another mutual friend have now tasked themselves with designing, manufacturing and selling male leggings to the fashion conscious male.

Why did you decide to develop a range of leggings for men?
We feel good when we wear leggings.

We look good when we wear leggings.

We decided to develop a range of leggings for men to share this feeling with the world.

Did you undertake any particular research when planning the range?
Our research took the form of experimentation. Experimentation with our style, beliefs and sexuality. We each scoured the internet for interesting variations of the garment, ordered them and then performed multiple catwalks to astounded spectators at sTitch Leggings HQ in East London.

Do you feel that leggings for men are becoming more popular?
Men are always looking for the next fashion step. Skinny jeans have been accepted as a wardrobe must have and we are just evolving the garment further, by making it better fitting with the possibility of unlimited design opportunities.

Do you know who David Beckham is? Of course you do.

Do you know who sTitch Leggings are? Of course you will.

When developing the range of leggings for men, what were the specific needs you took into account? Did you look carefully at issues such as sizing and fit?
We had to look at our meggings both in terms of style and practicality. Not only have we designed our leggings to fit your crown jewels, we also have added a pockets to fit all your treasures. We realised that (most) men don’t carry a handbag around so giving our leggings a pocket gave us the functionality of a pair of jeans, but the extreme skinny fit and funky designs that you can only get leggings.

Some men buy leggings and tights that are designed and made for women. What do you feel are the advantages of leggings that are made specifically for men?
This is the exact reason we even entered the leggings game. This is not a business for us but a campaign to get men in leggings designed for the male physique. It’s the ‘round peg in a square hole’ argument. You could ram it in there, or you could find the right size hole. By all means squeeze into a pair of womens leggings, OR, look great in a pair of our meggings that are designed especially for you.

How successful has the range been so far since you launched it? Are any of the styles selling particularly well?
What feeling do you think David got when he doing his victory dance on Goliath’s chest and urinating on his corpse? SUCCESS. Our success is probably equal to David’s if not greater than it. We’ve been fighting the homophobic monster that is Goliath along with the rest of the male leggings industry and we’re winning.

We have sold legging’s all over the world lots of repeat business and some going for the complete range. The best sellers for us have been the classic Logo design.

How can men buy sTitch Leggings?

You may see sTitch’s advertised in a few areas/sites. We are often representing at Brick Lane Truman Brewery market. The easiest channel however is to visit www.stitchleggings.com

What developments can we expect in the future at? Are you planning to develop any new styles for men, such as men's tights?
We are currently developing a new range of designs set to come out later this year.

In terms of developments to expect, you can probably expect to see sTitch Leggings popping up in more retail outlets. Secondly moving towards being the number one supplier of men’s leggings in the UK and beyond. This will be followed by taking over the Arcadia group and then world domination. Only joking. Serious about the world domination bit though.

It's been great speaking to you Tom. Thanks for providing information about sTitch Leggings for the readers of this blog. I hope people will check out the website. Do keep us informed about any future developments as we would love to cover them here.

New hosiery retailer: Luxury Legs

As a previous customer of the shop wbw1.com, I have just been informed that they have relaunched at Luxury Legs.

Tights from an impressive range of premium legwear brands are available including our favourites Falke, as well as Oroblu, Gerbe and Pierre Mantoux.

There are also some brands that are new to me and perhaps Hosiery For Men readers also, like HYD.

Delivery is free on all UK orders over £50.00.

I am looking forward to seeing what other brands and styles will be stocked. At the moment there would seem to be plenty that would interest men who buy tights for themselves.
